To mark the theatrical release of the documentary film NASRIN, PEN America and Ms. Magazine convened an online conversation and audience Q&A with the filmmakers and human rights advocates to discuss the importance of lawyer-writer Nasrin Sotoudeh’s work and the need to free unjustly detained political prisoners.

Recorded live December 21, 2020, this panel discussion between NASRIN filmmakers Jeff Kaufman and Marcia Ross, artist and activist Parastou Forouhar, and human rights advocate Kerry Kennedy was moderated by New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof and facilitated by PEN America’s Karin Deutsch Karlekar. Featuring an introduction by acclaimed author Margaret Atwood and special closing remarks from Sotoudeh’s husband Reza Khandan, the conversation explores Nasrin Sotoudeh’s life and work, Iran’s women’s movement, and how advocates worldwide can join the global call to #FreeNasrin​ and unjustly detained political prisoners.
